Katy Perry Sues Fashion Designer
Singer Katy Perry may sing about kissing girls, but she sure as hell doesn’t like it when a female on the other side of the world shares her name, albeit spelled Katie.
Katie Perry is an Australian fashion designer who is being sued by Katy Perry’s lawyers . Unbelievable? It’s quite true.
“Ms Perry, 28, launched her label in 2007 but came to the attention of the singer’s Australian lawyers only last September when she applied for a trademark.
Lawyers for the 24-year-old pop star asked Ms Perry to withdraw her trademark application, arguing her label could be mistakenly linked with their client, who shot to fame with her 2008 single I Kissed A Girl then topped the international charts again with Hot N Cold.”
Katy Perry’s lawyers have requested that Katie Perry withdraw her trademark application. Why should the fashion designer, who launched her label a year before Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’ single hit Australia? What would happen if a male pop star became a sensation and was named Marc Jacobs? Would his lawyers have a right to sue fashion designer Marc Jacobs?
It’s the principle isn’t it? If you’re born with your name and it happens to be similar to a singer’s name, then the nouveau singers get snotty about it. Katy Perry has only been around for five minutes, in terms of her career, and already she thinks she is a diva.
Get over yourself Katy.
